The Way It Is

You're lying next to me in bed again
I've been used to silence
And your breathing is deep and loud
The longer I lie and listen
The louder it gets
Until its as loud as the tornado
Which passed by the house once
I want you to leave
I want you to go away
And I know
Some day you will
Some day when we've fixed
All the broken parts of you
You'll leave
Some day when the nightmares have subsided
And you've stopped talking about death
They'll take you back
Yes, they'll take you back
And break you all over again
But for now you'll stay here
I roll over and look at the picture of our babies
Illuminated by the glow of the moon.
